"From the Pitch" July 12 by #19 Oscar Jimenez

This past weekend was not a weekend to be very proud of for us players. Though we managed to secure a spot in the Challenge Cup, it was very frustrating that we only managed to come out with 2 points out of the possible 6.  It has been very unusual for us to have these kinds of games where we struggle to score. We felt like we dominated both matches, but one place we lacked quality was in our attacking third; We created chance after chance in both games, but just could not find the back of the net.,

For the most part, I’m not going to worry too much about our scoring. This week we plan on doing a lot of crossing and finishing in the final third. That should get us prepared to take on Victoria on Sunday! Generally, a team is supposed to be hitting their best form towards the end of the season -  and that’s exactly the route we are taking. We are sitting on a 7 game unbeaten streak, and a playoff berth that gives us the opportunity to bring a trophy home to Bellingham!

We were all very excited to play on Saturday since there had been such a big hype about the game in Langley. Looking up to the stands and noticing that we had more fans than they did was all the motivation we needed.  Our fans did a great job bringing out the scarves along with filling up their railings with posters and flags. As usual, we had the loudest supporters there, with no fear of being in their territory.

Sunday was a different story; I knew we were going to have a lot of fans but not as many as we actually did. Since the first game of the season, our attendance has seemed to drop off– which is a bit sad to see. So as I was walking towards the stadium that afternoon, the closer I got, the more goose bumps I got. It must have had something to do with all the law enforcement vehicles, or namely, the border patrol! But it was nice to see all the military and firefighters. They do a great deal for our country and I was glad to have them be our audience.

The last home-game of the season is finally here and it’s actually hard to believe it all went so fast. We have had so much fun being a part of this great new team here in Bellingham; the only thing left for us to do is to add some silverware!! For our last game, we hope every piece of the puzzle is present: the fans, the scarves, the drums, the beer garden, the drunken people, the sunshine, and  most importantly, the kids. We love seeing them at every game having such a good time - Hopefully one day they become Hammers too!!

See you all on Sunday!

Come get some!!!
